DG&A Announces Placement of Paul Butler with Vanguard Health Systems

Last year, DG&A announced two placements with Vanguard Health Systems. Dr. Aaron Gerber was selected to become the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Vanguard Chicago Market office and Edward M. Carne filled the position of Senior Vice President of Ambulatory Care Services for the Chicago Market. Once again, David Gomez & Associates (DG&A) was retained in November 2011 by Vanguard Health Systems, a $6 billion for-profit health and healthcare company.

DG&A was brought on by Vanguard to find a Vice President of Managed Care for the Chicago market and filled the position within 60 days with Paul Butler who was previously the Associate Director of Payer Strategies for Navigant Consulting in Chicago. At Navigant, Butler managed care assessment and strategy for an IPA/multi-hospital regional network, working with 13 hospitals and more than 2,500 physicians. Up to that time, he served as the Vice President of Network Management at Humana, Inc from 2007-2010. Butler consistely delivered impressive results, whether it be with representing more than 19% market share and $2.9 billion in net revenue or creating strategy that targeted alternative shared savings, clinical integration, and intensive outpatient care program incentive models with leading national plans.

The Vice President of Managed Care will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing the managed care strategic initiatives and towards that end, contracting the national third party payors. Working closely with the Chicago Market CFO, Butler will be managing the preparation, analysis, review and projection of the financial impact of managed care third party contracts and terms.

Butler received his Masters Degree in Business Administration at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, his Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois, and his CPA from the state of Illinois. Edward’s strong educational background combined with his demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of healthcare systems and highly developed communication and organizational skills will allow him to work collaboratively and credibly with payors to achieve common objetives.
