David Gomez, President and CEO of David Gomez & Associates, was appointed as the Chair of Board Nominations on the board of directors for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in November 2011. A few of his responsibilties include finding new board members, creating processes to hire a Chair Elect, and scoping out who will join the board and why.
David is also the Regional Chair for Region IV of the USHCC. Region IV is comprised of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. The Regional Chairs support the USHCC and its mission and facilitate communications between the chambers and board of directors within the region, and the USHCC staff and leadership team. David reaches out to local, state, and national public officials to support efforts for Hispanic business by introducing and utilizing corporate programs with local chambers.
There are many exciting programs that David is working to get implemented throughout Region VI. The Visa Merchant Acceptance Program is one of the newest USHCC chamber programs. Visa is providing a sponsorship for local chambers and will educate merchants on accepting and using credit cards. The USHCC and Visa will also work together to develop acceptance solutions for USHCC merchants to ensure they have access to the best available interchange rates and other acceptance solutions from Visa. "Our card acceptance partnership with Visa will offer Hispanic small businesses an important economic advantage," said Javier Palomarez, President and CEO, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "This initiative will offer our members access to affordable card acceptance programs that support business growth, especially during these challenging economic times."
The BizFest Youth Entrepreneurship Competition is an innovative and intensive training program for Hispanic high school juniors and seniors. BizFest helps develop student’s hobbies into profitable business ventures by educating teens on a variety of relevant busienss techniques. The curriculum particularly focuses on leadership development and entrepreneurship training. The students then present their business idea and plan presentations to the panel of judges (chamber leaders, college professors, and other prominent business leaders). At the BizFest last year in McAllen, Texas, the national winners received scholarships and the regional winners won Apple iPads.
Other programs include the Chamber Training Institute at the University of Notre Dame, Green Build Business sponsored by Walmart, and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businessess program.
David makes a great fit for these highly regarded positions as he is President and CEO of a certified Hispanic Business, demonstrates the ability and willingness to actively lead the work of the organization, and is more than willing to represent USHCC throughout the community and regionally.
